Welcome to COOK COUNTY READS
Our Winter READING Olympics 2018!

At Boreal Corps, we know that in Cook County everyone gets a gold medal for the skills, attitude, grit and cheerful neighborliness it takes to slide gracefully out of the last weeks of northern winter.

We want to help build that team spirit of expert winter living. And because we know that reading is a big part of our survival kit, we want to showcase what kids have been reading since school started in September.

Below we highlight some of the reading journal excerpts  of the fine, thoughtful work of students at Great Expectations Charter School's 7th grade  class of Kathryn Nelson-Pedersen as they travel their own mythic journeys into the world of author J.R.R. Tolkien.

Join them! Grab a book and journey through the harrowing lands of boreal winter in the titanic battle for spring by reading--and keeping a journal about it!

Thanks to students below, Bryn, Sami, Livi, Gus, Greta and more, for sharing insights into their reading worlds and journaling.
